The first thing to know is what the transmission fluid is. The transmission fluid is what helps keep the internal parts of your transmission cooled and lubricated. Like all other major parts of your vehicle, there is a specific fluid that helps it stay lubricated and working properly. When this fluid is low or becomes too contaminated with debris, it prevents it from doing its job and can consequently damage other parts.
The automatic transmission is what enables your car to shift from gear to gear automatically – as opposed to a manual or stick shift. The fluid, as mentioned above, provides the power needed for the shifts to change and engage.
Our recommendation of frequency for your automatic transmission to be serviced is about once every 40,000 miles or 3 to 4 years, whichever comes first. If you notice any odd leaks, bring your car in as soon as possible so we can take a look and make sure nothing serious is happening.
If you notice any of the above signs, bring it in for our team to check out. You can never be too cautious. By keeping your transmission healthy you’re extending its life and the life of your vehicle by thousands of miles. Preventive measures like regular routine maintenance are what help keep you and your car on the road longer and safer.
